On Monday everyone came to school for the first time in 2 weeks and this term we have speeches. My speech is about Emma Twigg an Olympic gold medalist in rowing, I hope you like it.
Lisa Mangum said “Make your own decisions. Make your own choices.” It’s a simple quote but I think it’s very impactful. I think NZ's most inspirational olympian, Emma Twigg definitely made her own decisions and choices- With her job and relationships- about things that made her happy and didn’t care what others thought.
I think Emma Twigg is NZ's best olympian because she is very passionate and had to persevere a lot to win a gold medal. And went to the olympics four times before she won a medal.
“Perseverance is failing 19 times and succeeding the 20th” Julie Andrews. Emma Twigg went to the olympics in 2008 in Beijing, 2012 in London and 2016 in RIo de Janeiro and of course 2021 in tokyo. And the first time she went she came ninth, then in 2012 she came 4th then she came fourth again by 0.3 seconds, then this year she won her first gold medal. She retired from rowing twice. Once for master level studies then a second time after narrowly missing a medal in 2016, then started training again in 2018.
Rachel Wolchin-author of the good vibe- once said People too often forget that it is your own choice how you want to spend the rest of your life. I think Emma Twigg didn’t forget this and made the choice to marry Charlotte, knowing that people might judge her, not agree with her choice. She is very comfortable talking about her choice.
Emma Twigg has a few major achievements. Like a few world titles and an olympic medal. All of which she had to work very hard to achieve.
